Del Ray Artisans Music In Art (DRA Members Only)
Receiving: Sunday, June 2 and Monday, June 3, 2013 from 6-8pm
This all-member, all-media exhibit explores the relationship between music and art. There is a long history of musical references and influences in the visual arts. We are looking for artists to give us their interpretations—your chance to bring music in art to life with your painting, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, or a mixed media creation!
Del Ray Artisans Artworks For Good
Receiving: Sunday, May 12 and Monday, May 13, 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm
Del Ray Artisans (DRA) is celebrating their mission of supporting the arts by hosting a fundraiser art exhibit with a closing Fundraiser/Benefit Reception. The proceeds of the art exhibit will go to DRA. Proceeds from the closing reception will be split between DRA and The American Cancer Society in honor of Becky Arnold. This exhibit is open to all area artists and selection/acceptance of artwork for this fundraising exhibit is the curator's decision.

Del Ray Artisans Alexandria Art Market (Artist Vendor Application)
Application Deadline: April 22, 2013
Join Del Ray Artisans in its 4th season of monthly outdoor art markets on the lawn area of the Del Ray Artisans gallery. These markets give artists an opportunity to sell their original handmade artwork and provide them with consistent exposure to the community. There will be five (5) monthly markets on the 1st Saturday of the month (May through September) from 10am to 4pm, rain or shine.
Del Ray Artisans Turn On Your Masters
Receiving: Sunday, Mar. 31 from 6-8pm and Monday, Apr. 1, 2013 from 5-7pm
Take this opportunity to pay homage to your favorite master, question the hoopla surrounding particular pieces and praise, critique, or dish the artist and peers who have influenced us. A picture of your selected master artwork will be displayed next to your artwork. Show runs April 5-28, 2013. Show Awarding Judge: Scott Brooks. Curators: Zade Ramsey and Drew Cariaso.
Local Opportunity Art in City Hall
Submission Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2013 at 6pm
The Art League and the City of Alexandria, in conjunction with the Mayor's initiative to promote the arts citywide in Alexandria, are coordinating a rotating fine art exhibit. This exhibit will enhance the environment of Alexandria's City Hall and promote the talent of local artists. The exhibit will be juried by an outside, independent expert in the arts, and will hang for six months on the second floor of the Alexandria City Hall. Members of The Art League, Del Ray Artisans, and the Torpedo Factory Artists' Association are invited to participate.
Del Ray Artisans POWER ART
Receiving: Sunday, Feb. 24 and Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 from 6-8pm
Edgar Degas said: "Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." POWER ART makes others see familiar things in new ways; it evokes emotions. POWER ART can be big and bold, but it can also be quiet and simple. Regardless, it makes the viewer stop, and think. POWER ART is often a philosophical or satirical commentary. It addresses civil liberties, human rights or even the environment—that means POWER ART is often unconventional in both material and techniques.
Del Ray Artisans Dot and Dash
Receiving: Sunday, Jan. 27 and Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 from 6-8pm
All work starts with a basic dot or dash. What types of marks do you use to start your creative process? This show is an investigation about getting back to the basics. Deconstruct and reconstruct your unique art-making style to interpret the theme Dot and Dash. We are looking for area artists to create in their own unique style—painterly, graphic, realistic, or abstract—in two or three-dimensions.
Del Ray Artisans Shades of White (DRA Members Only)
Receiving: Sunday, Dec. 30 from 6-8pm and Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 from 4-7pm
This all-member, all-media show challenges DRA artists to think beyond the ordinary by creating their compositions in shades of white. White isn't "just white"! It has tones and hues ranging from blues to beiges to yellows and more.

Del Ray Artisans Calling All Area Writers and Performing Artists
Apply by October 8, 2012
We are looking for writers to submit poetry or short prose that interprets the show's theme, Sweet 'n Salty, AND looking for performers to "perform" the submitted works. Writers: Poem/prose should be no more than a page long. Performers: Performances can be spoken word, dance, music—whatever you are inspired to do by your assigned writing—but should be no longer than 5 minutes.

Receiving: Sunday, September 30 and Monday, October 1, 2012 from 6:30-8:30pm
Give in to your cravings and become inspired by the theme Sweet 'n Salty. Both words have a variety of connotations and meanings. Let your senses and personal experiences inspire you, and create dynamic and interesting interpretations of this very tasty and feeling-filled theme. Push your personal boundaries and become a little salty or try to be sweet. 3-D work is also encouraged.

Del Ray Artisans Telling Images, Juried Photography Exhibition (DRA Members Only)
Submissions due online: August 31, 2012
Some photographs tell, compel, imply, or suggest some sort of narrative or story: character, place, mood, feeling, plot, past, present, future. Submit up to four (4) single images, each richly implying a story your viewer is induced to imagine from your visual vocabulary. Your topic might include people, or empty spaces that imply presence, in a realistic or abstract style. Choose from your work a group that together tells our jurors what your eye is like. Their criteria will be the quality, originality, and effectiveness in expressing this theme. Film or digital, color or black/white, are acceptable.

Del Ray Artisans It Runs in the Family!
Submissions due: August 15, 2012
Show us the art that represents your "artistic heritage" by presenting a collection of your own and your family's artworks—that which inspired you and others. We are interpreting "family" very broadly (spouses, partners, in-laws, great-great-grandparents, distant cousins, etc). You be the "curator" and assemble a minimum of 2 or a maximum of 6 artworks (one per person in your family) that proves the point that art indeed "runs in the family."
Local Opportunity City Galleries: Call for Exhibition Proposals 2012-2015
Proposal Deadline Extended to Monday, July 16, 2012 at 5 PM
Office of the Arts and Alexandria Commission for the Arts invite proposals from the artists for exhibitions in public galleries in the City. Proposals will be accepted from individual artists, consortia of artists, and organizations who work and/or live within the City of Alexandria. Exhibitions will run for six months. There is no exhibition theme and all two-dimensional media will be accepted. All work must be original.

It's Del Ray Artisans' own "fringe festival." Explore and create "edgy" images, photographs, 3D constructions, or sculpture inspired by your outer creative limits and perhaps drawn from sports, clothes, music, art, performance, food, lifestyle, violent nature, animals, living spaces, dwelling places, steps and stairs, outside, inside, and so on. Let your imagination do the leading!
Local Opportunity Alexandria Commission for the Arts Special Opportunity Grant: Outdoor Temporary Public Art Project
Deadline: April 20, 2012 at 5pm
The Alexandria Commission for the Arts (ACA) is accepting proposals for the temporary placement or experience of art in public spaces through a special opportunity grant. The ACA is seeking innovative, thought-provoking projects by artists that relate to a proposed space or spaces in an engaging way. All artistic disciplines will be considered including, but not limited to: visual art, storytelling, poetry, spoken word, dance, music, theatre, performance art, and new media.
Del Ray Artisans Childhood Memories

Memories are often the inspiration for art. This juried show is all about the artists' childhood. Our memories are endless: a tree, an experience, a trip, a gathering, an animal, a poem, a person, a place, or anything that brings you back to a childhood memory. Think outside your comfort zone to create innovative themed art. 3-D art also is encouraged.

Del Ray Artisans Love, Politics and Scrabble: The Games People Play

What's your game? Tennis? Mahjong? Or perhaps Gossip? Deceit? Del Ray Artisans invites artists to submit artwork inspired by the various games people play throughout life. The show, juried by Virginia-based painter Moira McQuillen, is an all-media show open to all area artists.
Del Ray Artisans Artist Warriors: Post Apocalyptic Adventure
Receiving: Monday, January 2 (1-4pm) and Tuesday, January 3 (5-7pm), 2012
Imagine you are an artist surviving in the landscape of a post apocalyptic world. You become an art warrior documenting this inhospitable world with your art and creating fashions to move through it. The causes of this apocalypse could be real or media created. This show is all about letting your inner survivalist and your art warrior imagination go wild. Show is open to both 2- and 3-dimensional art as well as textiles such as clothing of apocalyptic era.
Del Ray Artisans It's All About The Little Things (DRA Members Only)
Receiving: Sunday, December 4 and Monday, December 5, 2011 from 6:30-8:30pm
It's all about the little things. Tiny, diminutive, miniature, but not quite microscopic. Some would say it's a small world—a very small world. The challenge to Del Ray Artisans members is to create art in 8"x10" or smaller, in two- or three-dimensional format.
Local Opportunity Create Arlington Green Games Awards
Proposals Due: October 28, 2011
Arlington County Department of Environmental Services seeks qualified local artists (solo or teams) to generate artwork that will be awarded to successful participants in the Inaugural Season of the Arlington Green Games that achieve environmental goals eligible for the top tier award (Gold Award) and second tier award (Silver Award). The artwork is intended to: (1) serve as a permanent award suitable for display in recipients' place of work; (2) source materials that inspire resource conservation, reuse and recycling; and (3) be created by local artists or artist teams.
Del Ray Artisans Del Ray Dozenz Photography Show (DRA Members Only)

This juried show builds on the triumphs of past DRA photography shows and expands participation to "dozenz" of Del Ray Artisans members. The gamut of photographic styles, techniques, and subjects are encouraged. Open to All Area Artist. Del Ray Artisans will be celebrating Independence Day and the month of July with artwork inspired by U.S. people, places and/or things. Artists are asked to create artwork with U.S.-made materials so as to emphasize both the origin of the materials and that we represent a large, important purchasing bloc. The goal of this exhibit is to reflect everything that represents the U.S., including the actual artistic materials themselves.

Del Ray Artisans Art Camp 2011: Call for Instructors/Artists

Del Ray Artisans is accepting project proposals for Art Camp 2011 for 25 students aged 8-14 (9 am- 4 pm, July 25-29, 2011). The ideal project will be fun, instructional, support the theme "around the world in 5 days" and be tailored to age groups 8-10 and/or 11-14. Projects should combine educational elements with hands-on opportunities for creativity and relate to a current or historic craft founded in cultural tradition.
Del Ray Artisans It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, But I Like It!

This unique exhibit will be inspired by and pay homage to all things rock 'n' roll: bands, instruments, lyrics, rebellious youth culture, a lifestyle dedicated to glamour and excess.

DRA's March All-Media Abstract Show, Beyond Form: Expressing Art, is open to all area artists, with a spotlight on painting. See the gallery zipping with positive energy, beauty, truth, and color! See the counterpoint of monochromatic simplicity, stillness, and restraint—lending balance and white space. Whichever direction you go, let it be lovely, for as Kandinsky once said, "An empty canvas is a living wonder... far lovelier than certain pictures."

Receiving: Sunday, January 30 from 7-9pm and Monday, January 31, 2011 from 6-9pm
Follow the tortured footsteps of Van Gogh and Toulouse Lautrec. Love Letters, the exhibit (2/4 -2/27/11), invites you to submit artwork inspired by art's most powerful emotion—love. Open to Del Ray Artisan members and non-members. Artists may submit a maximum of three entries and are required to accompany each submitted artwork with a love letter to the artwork subject matter.
Local Opportunity 2011 Artistic Rain Barrel Program
Application Submission Deadline: January 14, 2011
The Northern Virginia Rain Barrel Program partners invite you to submit a design and application to have your artwork featured in the 2011 Artistic Rain Barrel Program. Each selected artist will turn a rain barrel into a work of art as part of a fun way to educate the community on the benefits of using rain barrels to improve water quality. All artistic barrels will be on display with interpretative signage at local libraries, nature centers, community centers and businesses throughout Northern Virginia in spring 2011. Potential artists are required to submit a short summary and sketch of their intended design.
Del Ray Artisans Baby It's Cold Outside & Sock it to Winter (DRA Members Only)

An art show to celebrate and remember all things good and bad about winter. Show off your best works and help us support Sock it to Winter by donating a pair of new men's or women's socks to the homeless with each work of art that you enter.
Del Ray Artisans Celebrating Movement (DRA Members Only)
Receiving: Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 7-9pm and Monday, November 22, 2010 from 6-9pm
This Thanksgiving weekend, we are celebrating movement! Bring in 1 (one) art piece that you think portrays movement or motion. There will be fun, performing arts activities scheduled throughout the weekend, so think fun, think fast, think movement! We will also have a mini marketplace by the front desk throughout the weekend. When you bring in your artwork for drop-off, also bring (if you choose) items that can fit in art bins. This includes any flat art pieces. Foam core will be available for semi-flat pieces or to attach smaller items (such as jewelry). Artists can bring up to 5 items to put in bins, but please remember that you are allowed one item for artwork display.
Local Opportunity Black and White Show at Rampart's Music Tavern
Deadline for submission of CDs: November 12, 2010
Theme is Alexandria, Our Town; all media black and white, limited to 2d. Juried by DRA member Fierce Sonia. Show will hang for 6 months in the Fairlington Room at Rampart's Music Tavern. Artists living or working in the Virginia, Maryland, and DC area are eligible. Special considerations will be made for students at TC Williams High School.
Local Opportunity City Galleries: Call for Exhibition Proposals 2010-2012
Proposal Deadline: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 5 PM
The Office of the Arts and Alexandria Commission for the Arts seek artist proposals to exhibit their works in one of 12 galleries in the City. Proposals will be accepted from individual artists, consortia of artists, and organizations who work and/or live within the city of Alexandria from October 5 through November 10, 2010. Exhibitions will run for six months. All works must be original and only two-dimensional works will be accepted. No entry fee required.

Del Ray Artisans Blue: An Interpretation (DRA Members Only)

Blue: a simple word with so many meanings--a color; an emotion; a name. "Blue" has defined the careers of artists--Picasso had his "blue" period; Yves Klein developed International Klein Blue (IKB) as part of his search represent his artistic concepts. So, what does "blue" mean to you? We're looking for your interpretation!

Del Ray Artisans Undecided: A Dialog between Artist and Viewer (DRA Members Only)
Receiving: Sunday, May 30, 2010 from 6-9pm and Monday, May 31, 2010 from 6-9pm
This all-member, all-media show offers artists and viewers a chance to observe how we all respond to art—our own and that of others. There are no thematic requirements for this exhibit; however, your artwork will be displayed with the titles hidden from view. Beside each artwork will be a sheet on which viewers may write in a title for your masterpiece. "Undecided" is about the process of creating art from life and noticing how subjects, or titles, emerge. It is also an exploration of the mysterious ways in which the viewer is moved by the images or forms created. We ask the viewers to articulate that exchange by offering a title for a work that moves them.
Del Ray Artisans Global Rhythm (National Call)
Submission Deadline: May 28, 2010 at midnight
From Paul Gauguin to Amedeo Modigliani, artists have been inspired and entranced by the culture, people, and artistic vision of a foreign land. Whether it's their ethnic technique or the exotic appearance, artwork influenced by a foreign country opens the minds of fellow artists and patrons alike—displaying a visual passport to a new, beautiful and unfamiliar world. This show celebrates that global inspiration.
